Ratan Tata Family Tree: A Look At The Tata Family And Their Legacy

Chairman emeritus of Tata Group, Ratan Tata passed away at an age of 86. He was widely known and respected for his contribution to corporate landscape of India. Tata family is one of the established business families of India, their generation over the years have been in business sphere. Though, Ratan Tata never married but he had quite a big family.

Jamshedji Tata

Jamshedji Tata or Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata was an Industrialist who founded the Tata Group. He was born into a Zoroastrian Parsi family in Navsari. He was born to Nusserwanji and Jeevanbai Tata on 3 March 1839.

Jamshedji Tata married Hirabai Daboo and together they had two sons, Dorbaji Tata and Ratanji Tata. Both of his sons, later succeeded him as the Chairmen of the Tata Group.

Dorabji Tata

He was the eldest son of Jamsetji and played a major role in the expansion of the Tata Group. After his father’s death, Dorabji became the chairman of the Tata Group. He led projects in the iron and power sectors. Under his leadership, the group became an international powerhouse and acquired brands such as Tetley Tea, Jaguar Land Rover and Air India. He married Meherbai Bhabha in 1896, but they had no children.

Ratanji Tata

He was the younger son of Jamsetji Tata and like his brother, he also played an important role in the success of the family. He was the chairman of the Tata Group from 1928 to 1932. Ratanji married Navajbai Seth, daughter of Ardeshir Merwanji Seth in 1892. The couple had no biological children, but continuing the family lineage, they adopted Naval Tata.

JRD Tata

Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata was an Indian industrialist, philanthropist and aviator. He served the Tata Group as former Chairman. He was born into the Tata family as the son of Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata and Suzanne Brier. His father, Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata was maternal cousin of Jamsetji.

Naval Tata

He was an adopted son of Ratanji and Navajbai Tata, He carried forward the family legacy. Naval had two marriages. His first wife Sooni Commissariat gave birth to two sons Ratan Naval Tata and Jimmy Naval Tata. After divorcing Sooni, Naval married Simone Dunoyer and had a son, Noel Tata.

Ratan Naval Tata

Ratan Naval Tata was one of India’s most popular businessmen. Ratan Tata was the son of Naval Tata and Soonoo Tata. At the age of 10, he was raised and adopted by Navajbai Tata, his grandmother and widow of Ratanji Tata. He served as the chairman of Tata Sons from 1990 to 2012. He then held the interim position in 2016-2017. Under his leadership, the Tata Group expanded globally and solidified its position as a top global company. Even after stepping down, Ratan Tata remained a prominent figure in industrial development.

Jimmy Naval Tata

He is the younger brother of Ratan Tata and has lived a private life. Nothing much is known about him but Jimmy has shares in Tata group.

Noel Tata

Noel Tata is the half-brother of Ratan Tata, from Naval Tata’s second marriage to Simone Tata. Noel Tata is also deeply involved in the Tata Group. He is married to Aloo Mistry, the daughter of billionaire Pallonji Mistry and together they have three children: Neville Tata, Leah Tata, and Maya Tata.
