During a grievance redressal program in Meerut on Saturday, a rape victim made a desperate attempt to set herself on fire, according to a statement by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohit Singh Sajwan.
The victim, along with her family, attended the ‘Sampoorna Samadhan Diwas’ event in Sardhana. They brought inflammable substances with them and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused involved in the rape case.
Police swiftly intervened, confiscating the inflammable material from the family. They reassured the victim and her family that appropriate action would be taken in response to the rape case.
The incident in question occurred approximately six months ago when the victim, a minor at the time, had filed a rape complaint against a man from her village. During the investigation, it was determined that the accused was not present in the area when the incident occurred but was in Punjab, as confirmed by the SSP.
SDM Pankaj Prakash Rathore emphasized that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Sarurpur police station. Instructions have been issued to the relevant police officials to take prompt action in addressing this matter. The case highlights the sensitive nature of sexual assault cases and the need for a comprehensive and empathetic response to the victims’ grievances.
