In an unusual incident, a 55-year-old woman gave birth to her 17th child at the Community Health Centre in Jhadol block of Rajasthan’s Udaipur district.
According to IANS, the woman, Rekha Kalbelia, wife of Kavara Ram Kalbelia, has had a total of 17 children, out of which 5 (four sons and one daughter) died soon after delivery. She now has 12 surviving children—seven sons and five daughters.
Kavara Kalbelia’s two sons and three daughters are married, and all of them are blessed with children, making Rekha and Kavara grandparents.
The couple has faced financial hardship as Kavara works as a scrap dealer, and they barely managed to marry off their daughter and son. They admitted that they had to borrow money for the weddings of their children. None of Rekha’s children have ever attended school.
