A retired Border Security Force (BSF) personnel is said to have shot dead his brother-in-law before killing himself in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district on Thursday, after a prolonged intra-familial rivalry with his estranged wife and her family.
The case had been between a 48-year-old ex-BSF jawan, who, in the police’s view, had been agitated a lot over his wife’s three-month stay at her parental home. The man had reportedly accused his in-laws of playing games with his wife against him, resulting in perpetual arguments and ultimate alienation.
It was corroborated by Suresh Chaudhary, a constable in the local police, who stated that the man had recorded himself before committing the act. In the recording, the deceased man narrated the marital problems and attributed his in-laws to dominating his wife’s decision.
“Himanshu’s bodies have been dispatched for autopsy. Enquiry is still on,” Chaudhary said to HT. He further added, “He was furious about his fight and believed that his in-laws were pressuring his wife to side with him against him, so the couple kept having quarrels and it eventually compelled her to shift base with her parents.”
Pursuant to police, the ex-BSF man, who had two children, shot his brother-in-law in the chest with a registered firearm and killed him immediately. The man then used the same gun and shot himself in the mouth, dying instantly.
The man also explained in the video that his wife would talk to her siblings for two to three hours every day, and so he deprived her of the phone. Her siblings provided her with a new one anyway later on. The man also explained that his wife was angry with him when he failed to send her ₹15,000, showing financial stress on their marriage.
The event has stunned the public and the authorities are trying to probe the incident, as well as what was included in the video message they left.
