What Had Happened?
On the morning of December 23, a girl fell into a borewell in Kiratpur village, Kotputli, Rajasthan, prompting a quick and coordinated rescue operation. Authorities responded promptly, initiating efforts to rescue the child. The girl had fallen into the borewell while playing in an agricultural field owned by her father on December 23 in Kiratpur village.
Authorities, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local officials, had put in relentless efforts to ensure her safe rescue.
On Sunday (December 29), officials explained that the construction of a tunnel to reach the girl was facing increased challenges due to the rocky terrain of the tunnel route. Additionally, the significant temperature difference between the top and bottom of the tunnel was also posing difficulties for the rescue operation. According to the officials, the operation reached a crucial point on Thursday night (December 26), with the B-plan being implemented and a casing pipe being lowered into the hole next to the borewell.
Why Are The Cases Increasing?
Notably, there has been an increase in the number of such incidents in Rajasthan. While no exact reason is given for these mishaps, below are several factors that might explain the rise in cases.
One of the most significant factors contributing to these accidents is the lack of proper borewell covers and safety measures around open borewells. In rural areas especially, many borewells are either left open or covered with unsafe materials.
As per reports, in many parts of Rajasthan, borewells are often dug by private contractors or individuals without any formal regulation or oversight. As a result, safety protocols might not be followed.
In several cases, the children may not recognize the dangers posed by open borewells.
