Rajasthan: Man Kills Wife Over Suspicions Of Communicating With Spirits Via Phone

A man from Rajasthan's Barmer district killed his wife Jiyo Devi (40) after he suspected she was talking to spirits on her phone, police said.

Early Wednesday morning, Chunnilal, the accused, killed his wife Jiyo Devi (40) with an axe. Preliminary investigations suggest he believed Jiyo Devi was communicating with spirits through her phone. Sumitra, their 17-year-old daughter, tried to stop Chunnilal during the attack but was also injured.

Neighbors heard the screams and quickly went to the house, where they found the mother and daughter severely injured. They immediately took them to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced Jiyo Devi dead upon arrival. Sumitra received first aid and was discharged after treatment.

Rajasthan Police Is Looking Over The Matter 

Police reported that Devi, Chunnilal, and their four children had dinner together on Tuesday night before going to bed. Chunnilal woke up around 2:30 am and assaulted his wife. Neighbors called the police around 3 am.

The police filed a case after Sumitra complained and arrested Chunnilal for murder. Jiyo Devi’s body was sent for post-mortem, and the investigation is ongoing.
