Kota Suicide Case: Rajasthan’s Kota, infamous for suicides has once again made headlines for the same reason. A 17-year-old student, preparing for NEET hanged himself from an iron rod in his hostel room. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Jawahar Nagar area of Kota. This was the second suicide reported on the same day from Rajasthan. Earlier, a 19-year-old medical aspirant died by suicide in a hostel in Jodhpur.
What Did Police Say?
The deceased has been identified as Harshraj Shankar, a resident of Nalanda district in Bihar. He was preparing for admission to undergraduate medical courses in a coaching institute since April, 2024. According to the police, Shankar was staying in hostel in the Jawahar Nagar area. He was found dead in his hostel room by his friends. The matter came to light when he didn’t respond to the knocks by his friends on Tuesday afternoon. The Hostel owner arrived at the scene and broke open the door where he was found dead. He was found hanging to an iron rod as the ceiling fan was equipped with anti-suicide device. However, no suicide not has been found from his room.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and his parents have been informed. Further investigation into the case regarding his attendance and performance in the coaching institute is underway.
10th Suicide Case From Rajasthan
Notably, this is the 10th suicide case reported from Rajasthan this year. Out of these cases, nine are from Kota and one is from Jodhpur. Also, one NEET and five JEE students died by suicide in the month of January.
