Rain Wreaks Havoc in Rajasthan: Two Dead, Hundreds Evacuated Amid Flood-Like Situation; Army, NDRF Deployed

Eight districts in Rajasthan are facing flood-like conditions, with Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, and Bundi hit the hardest.

Heavy rainfall has thrown life out of gear in Rajasthan, flooding several areas, damaging roads, and cutting off connectivity. Two women died in rain-related incidents, while hundreds of residents have been shifted to safer areas as the weather department has predicted more rain, particularly in the state’s eastern parts, India Today reported.

Eight districts in Rajasthan are facing flood-like conditions, with Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, and Bundi hit the hardest. The weather office reported that Bundi’s Nainwa recorded the state’s highest rainfall on Saturday, receiving 502 mm in 24 hours.

The severity of the situation has prompted the deployment of the Army, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), to carry out rescue and relief operations. The Air Force has been placed on standby, with one Mi-17 helicopter already airborne to assist.

Sawai Madhopur and Bundi are among the worst-hit. In Bundi, a 50-year-old woman was swept away in flood waters, while in another incident, a 65-year-old woman died after a tin shed wall collapsed on her at a farm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Sunday. Residents have been urged to stay alert and take precautions.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma took stock of the relief and rescue operations and directed officials to carry out a special survey of the damage to crops and houses.

Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota-Bundi MP Om Birla inspected flood-hit areas and directed steps for the rehabilitation of the affected people.
