The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that light to moderate rain and snowfall have been occurring intermittently in Kashmir over the past 24 hours, and this will continue until March 16, with heavy snowfall and rain expected on March 13, 14, and 15. Over the past 24 hours, moderate to heavy snowfall has been reported in the upper regions of Kashmir, while rain has been observed in the plains.

Heavy snowfall has been seen in hilly areas including Sadhna Top, Machil, Keran sector, Gulmarg, Gurez Valley, Razdan Top, Zojila Pass, Sonamarg, and other high-altitude areas. Rainfall has occurred in the plains, including Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to a drop in temperature in the valley. The IMD has indicated that the heaviest rain and snowfall in Kashmir is expected on March 13, 14, and 15. “Heavy snowfall is also possible in higher altitudes,” said a weather forecaster.

The IMD has issued an orange alert urging travelers, tourists, and transporters to adhere to administrative and traffic advisories. Farmers have been advised to refrain from agricultural activities from March 10 to March 16. The alert advisory states, “Avoid standing in avalanche-prone areas.”
Authorities have issued an advisory for travelers urging them to check road conditions before starting their journey, as landslides and avalanches may occur in sensitive areas due to adverse weather.
