National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah hailed the newly inaugurated Srinagar-Katra Vande Bharat train service as a transformative initiative that promises to revolutionize both the economy and tourism in Kashmir. During his inaugural journey on Tuesday, Abdullah described the train service as a “lifeline” for local residents and visitors alike.
“This development is a major breakthrough for Kashmir,” Abdullah said, expressing his enthusiasm as he boarded the sleek Vande Bharat train. “It will not only provide comfort to travellers but also alleviate the challenges posed by frequent road closures of Srinagar-Jammu NHW and soaring airfares.”
The new railway link is expected to significantly enhance the valley’s economic prospects, particularly in sectors such as horticulture. Abdullah emphasized that the improved connectivity would facilitate quicker access to national markets, allowing Kashmiri fruits to reach consumers in a timely manner—an issue that has long plagued local farmers. “Timely transportation of our produce has always been a challenge, but this railway service will change that,” he said.
Moreover, the railway line is set to enrich the experience for tourists visiting the picturesque Valley. With safer and more affordable travel options now available, Abdullah believes that the influx of visitors will further bolster the local economy. “This service will not only benefit residents but will also make it easier for tourists to explore the beauty of Kashmir,” he added.
