New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will address a rally of booth level party workers in Ahmedabad on September 5 for the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat and will also seek Mahatma Gandhi’s blessings at the Sabarmati Ashram ahead of the party’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.
The party’s Gujarat in-charge Raghu Sharma told reporters that the former Congress president will address a ‘Parivartan Sankalp’ convention of booth level workers at Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati riverfront on September 5.
Bharat Jodo Yatra to begin on Sept 7
The former Rajasthan minister said, “Gandhi will attend the program at the riverfront, after which he will go to the Sabarmati Ashram to seek the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi before the Bharat Jodo Yatra that begins on September 7.
The 3,500 km long padyatra will pass through 12 states and 2 union territories and will be completed in about 150 days.
Sharma said the Congress has prepared a three-month long campaign for the Gujarat elections due later this year, in which both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are participating in various programs. Sharma further said that the party has set a target of September 15 to release the first list of candidates.
Commenting on the BJP’s “double engine” government in Gujarat and at the Centre, Sharma said, “One engine will go out in the 2022 elections and the other in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.” He said there was enthusiasm in the party and expressed confidence of winning 125 seats in the 182-member assembly. Sharma said that 52,000 booth workers of Congress are fully prepared for the elections.

On the question related to the presence of Aam Aadmi Party in this election, Sharma rejected the challenge being given by AAP. He claimed, “No matter how many times Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visits Gujarat, the contest will be between the BJP and the Congress.
