Ramban: In his address to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, Congress MP and leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi attacked the central government, particularly for removing the statehood after abrogating Article 370 in the northern-most state turned union territories.

Speaking on the changed political structure of J and K, Gandhi said that union territories have been given statehood before, and states have been carved out of states such as Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand, but never in Indian history has a state been split into two to make union territories.

Pointing out the LG of Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, Congress MP said, “We removed all the kings in 1947 and formed a democratic government, we gave the country a constitution. Today again a king is sitting in Jammu and Kashmir, his name is LG but he is the king here.”

RaGa said in his speech in the Ramban district, “First and foremost, the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir has to be returned. Not only has your statehood been snatched, but your rights and your wealth have also been snatched away after this.”

Bashing at the BJP, Rahul Gandhi added that the party (BJP) wants statehood after elections whereas the INDIA block wishes for statehood first and the assembly elections thereafter. He further said that his alliance will make sure that they put enough pressure on the govt in the parliament and that statehood will be returned.

In his assurances to the voters ahead of the J&K assembly polls, RaGa makes BIG promises of bringing back statehood, filling all the government vacancies in the state, and extending the age limit to 40 years. He assures that the Congress-led government is going to be formed after the assembly polls.

The results of the first assembly elections of Jammu and Kashmir after scrapping of Article 370 are set to be declared on October 4 whereas the voting is to take place in three phases in September and October.
