In a deeply disturbing incident from Punjab, an elderly woman was brutally beaten and pulled by her hair by her daughter-in-law. The accused woman, identified as Harjeet Kaur, committed the offence while her son recorded the assault on his phone. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media platforms, prompting the Punjab State Commission of Women to initiate strict action.
The incident reportedly occurred in Gurdaspur last Sunday. The accused woman’s son has alleged that his mother regularly abused and beat his grandmother, Gurbajan Kaur. Despite his repeated requests, she continued to threaten and thrash the victim. In the video, Harjeet hurls abuse at her, asking, “Tu kutti aa (Are you a bitch?)” Meanwhile, the victim is seen breathing heavily after being pushed on the couch.
When even pulling the hair didn’t satisfy, the accused daughter-in-law hit the victim twice with a steel glass before smashing it on the ground. She later holds Gurbajan’s right leg when she attempts to push back and slaps her twice.
In her complaint, the elderly woman, a widow, has alleged that her daughter-in-law wants all the property to be transferred into her name. NDTV quoted her grandson as saying, “My mother hits me and sometimes fights with my father also. She drinks and probably consumes drugs as well. She often forces my father to drink.”
When asked why he didn’t stop his mother, Charatveer said, “I recorded the incident on camera as proof. My mother once filed a complaint against me as well and has threatened to take revenge and repeat her actions.” Police have issued a stern warning to the accused, as per reports.
