The Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Punjab, has released official data on the toll of the recent floods. According to the data, a total of 30 people have lost their lives across all 12 affected districts. The maximum number of deaths has occurred in the border district of Pathankot, where reports also mention three missing persons. Media reports further indicate that close to 15,000 people have been evacuated.
The torrential rains have broken records set over the last 55 years in the state. Thousands of acres of land have been affected, and large numbers of livestock have perished.

Districts including Amritsar, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Patiala, and Jalandhar have been hit hard due to the overflowing Ghaggar, Tangri, and Markanda rivers, along with the release of water from Ropar. Declaring that Punjab is witnessing its worst floods in recent memory, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has assured full support to the affected residents during this crisis.
Phagwara and Kapurthala witnessed torrential rains throughout the night, leaving local shops inundated and waterlogging crippling movement. In Sultanpur Lodhi, the rising Beas river threatened embankments and damaged standing paddy crops.
PM Modi Assures Support
After returning from China on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with CM Bhagwant Mann to discuss the worsening flood crisis. “Immediately after landing in Delhi, Prime Minister Modi called Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to review the situation caused by heavy rains and flooding in Punjab. He assured him of all possible help and support to the state,” As reported by ANI.
As per earlier reports, the soaring Sutlej waters had already impacted more than 28,000 residents across 112 villages. State officials now estimate that the ongoing floods have claimed 29 lives, mostly in Pathankot, and disrupted the lives of over 2.56 lakh people. Relief and rescue operations by the NDRF, Army, BSF, Punjab Police, and local authorities are continuing.
