Punjab: Four people were injured in an explosion that took place in a general coach of the Howrah Mail near Sirhind railway station in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district. The blast which occurred around 10.30 pm on Saturday was reportedly caused due to a plastic bucket containing firecrackers.
According to reports, the train was running from Amritsar to Howrah when the explosion occurred in the general compartment. Among the injured were four passengers, including a woman, who was rushed to Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Hospital for medical treatment. Government Railway Police officials and Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Singh confirmed the the cause of the blast.

Authorities are conducting a deep probe into the incident. Samples taken from the site were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis while police continued to gather all details surrounding the explosion.
In a separate incident in West Bengal’s Howrah district, three children reportedly lost their lives and two others suffered critical injuries. As per media reports, the incident occurred after firecrackers were ignited during Diwali celebrations on Friday evening.
The incident occurred when some children were bursting firecrackers and a spark fell on the stored fireworks, engulfing a house.
The three children succumbed to the injuries. They were pronounced dead at the hospital while two other injured children were critical and are being treated.
