In a social media post on Friday, Warring voiced his opposition to labelling young individuals like Shubh, who advocate for Punjab, as anti-nationals. He emphasized that Punjabis don’t need to prove their nationalism, stating, “I strongly oppose labelling our young voices like Shubh as anti-nationals. We Punjabis don’t need to provide any proof of our nationalism.”

Warring’s statement followed Shubh’s release of a statement on Instagram, expressing his disappointment after his shows in India were cancelled. In his post, Shubh emphasized his connection to India, where he was born, and described it as the land of his gurus and ancestors.

He articulated, “India is MY country too. I was born here. It is the land of my GURUS and my Ancestors, who didn’t even blink an eye to make sacrifices for the freedom of the land, for its glory, and for the family. And Punjab is my soul, Punjab is in my blood.” He further added, “Whatever I am today, I am because of being a Punjabi, Punjabis do not need to give proof of patriotism. At every turn in history, Punjabis have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country.” He also pleaded that naming every Punjabi as a separatist or anti-nationalist should be abstained.

The controversy surrounding Shubh began due to his alleged support for Khalistani groups and the sharing of a distorted map of India. He has been accused of being a sympathiser of Khalistanis amid the diplomatic tensions that escalated following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations regarding India’s involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
