Punjab: In Bule Nangal village near Beas, a tragic incident occurred when a daily-wage laborer, Sukhdev Singh, allegedly tied his pregnant wife to a cot and burnt her to death. The reason behind this horrific act was purportedly Sukhdev’s expensive hobby of keeping carrier pigeons, which he persisted in despite frequent arguments with his wife, Pinki, 23. Sukhdev has been arrested after the police recovered Pinki’s charred body.

The villagers reported the murder to the sarpanch on Friday evening, who then alerted the police. Beas Station House Officer (SHO) Gurwinder Singh claimed that Sukhdev, despite his meager income as a laborer, spent a significant portion of it on feeding his expensive habit of keeping carrier pigeons, despite his wife’s objections.
Due to the location of the house on the outskirts, it took the villagers a while to understand why smoke was rising from it. Initially, they mistook the smoke for straw burning. Sukhdev and Pinki had been married for about two years and six months, and she was six months pregnant at the time of her death.
