Five people were killed and 30 others injured in the early hours of Tuesday when a bus collided with a truck and tumbled into a drain in Punjab’s Faridkot area.
There were 35 passengers on board the accident-prone private bus, which belonged to Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon’s New Deep Transports company. The bus was en route to Amritsar from Muktsar and was crossing a bridge near Shahi Haveli when disaster struck.

Police said this was a head-on collision. After hitting the truck, the bus broke through the railings of the bridge and fell into the drain. Both vehicles appeared to be speeding, which could have contributed to the accident. An investigation is underway.

Following the accident, local residents jumped into the drain to rescue some of the injured, with police joining the operation shortly afterward, sources said.
This is the second such incident involving New Deep Transports. On December 27, 2023, a private bus fell into the Lasara drain in Bathinda, killing nine people and injuring nearly 20 others. In another incident last September, a bus owned by New Deep Transports fell into a canal in Muktsar, killing eight and injuring more than 30.
