In a shocking case, a well-known Pune scrap businessman, Laxman Sadhu Shinde, was kidnapped and killed after he was invited to Patna on the pretext of a multi-crore scrap business. Three people have been arrested by Patna police in connection with the case and 15 others were taken into custody for questioning.
Police said Shinde landed at Patna airport on April 11 night and spoke to his wife for the last time, telling her that a car sent by Shivraj Sagi, a man, was bringing him to Jharkhand. Since then, there has been no trace of him.
On April 13, Shinde’s brother-in-law, Vishal Lawaji Lokhande, registered a missing person report at the Patna airport police station. Jehanabad police reported finding an unidentified dead body in the Ghosi police station area on April 12 while investigating. Shinde’s family members identified the body, which had marks of physical assault.
Police probes found that cyber fraudsters had reached out to Shinde on social media, promising him a fat scrap deal of Coal India properties in Jharkhand. Lured by the prospects of enormous gains, Shinde consented to fly down to Patna.
He was kidnapped immediately upon arrival at the airport and brought through Nawada to Jehanabad, where he was murdered. The killers tried to cover up the killing as a road accident. Police, however, detected traces of money transfer from Shinde’s account, proving foul play.
The case has revealed a web of cybercrooks who are active between Patna and Nalanda. Shinde resided in the Indrayani Cooperative Society in Pune and had spoken to his wife about the transaction before he left. Police are still probing to find out the extent of the criminal gang involved.
