In the Pune bus rape case, a court sent the accused, Dattatray Ramdas Gade, to police custody until March 12.
On Friday, the police told the court that Gade called the 26-year-old woman “didi” (sister). He then took her to an empty “Shiv Shahi” bus parked at the Swargate depot and raped her.
According to a PTI report, the 37-year-old man, named Gade, is facing several criminal cases in Pune and Ahilyanagar. He was seen clearly in CCTV footage at a bus station on the day of the incident. The police are still trying to recover data from the mobile phone he was using. Out of the six cases against him, five involve complaints from women.
The police said they have not yet recovered data from the mobile phone Gade was using. They have also mentioned that in five out of the six cases against him, women have filed complaints.
On Friday, a Pune court sent Gade to police custody until March 12. He was arrested late Thursday night in a paddy field after a long search using drones and sniffer dogs in the Shirur area of Pune district.
In addition to using technology, 13 police teams were sent for the search, but the key to catching Gade was the information from people, another official told PTI.
Gade was formally arrested and brought to the Pune Sessions Court under heavy police protection. The police asked the court to keep Gade in custody for 14 days.
He was scared of the police action so he tried to kill himself by hanging from a dry tree in a field, but the rope was broken and his attempt was failed.
“According to the primary medical report, a ligature mark was found on the accused. It is suspected that he attempted suicide. We are waiting for the final report,”Pune’s police commissioner, Amitesh Kumar, was reported by the news agency PTI.
The official further mentioned that, “The search operation in sugarcane fields with drones and dog squads was stopped at night. However, we received information that Gade had visited a house asking for food. We rushed to the spot, but he managed to flee. The family in the house gave him a bottle of water,”
What the Defence Lawyer Said
According to the PTI report, lawyer Wajid Khan, who is defending the accused, told the court that his client was being judged by the media. He also claimed that the complainant went into the bus on her own.
Khan told the court that the physical relationship between them was agreed upon by both of them.
