Pune Porsche Crash: 14 Calls Between Doctor And Accused’s Father In Blood Sample Tampering Case

Pune Porsche Crash: The day after two doctors and a staff member from the state-run Sassoon General Hospital were arrested for allegedly switching the blood sample of the minor accused of driving the Porsche that ran over two engineers on May 19, police reported Tuesday that Dr. Ajay Taware, the head of the hospital’s Forensic Medicine Department, exchanged 14 phone calls with the minor’s father within two hours before the sample collection.

On Monday, while seeking the remand of Dr. Taware and the two others, police informed a local court that the accused had accepted bribes to alter the minor’s blood sample. The police investigation revealed that the minor’s sample was discarded in a dustbin, and another person’s blood sample was sent for tests to detect the presence of alcohol.

After making the arrests, police searched premises linked to Dr. Taware, Dr. Shrihari Halnor, a Casualty Medical Officer, and Atul Ghatkamble, who worked in the hospital morgue. They recovered Rs 2.5 lakh from Dr. Halnor and Rs 50,000 from Ghatkamble.

A senior police officer stated, “We believe the amounts recovered from Halnor and Ghatkamble are their cuts. However, the investigation now primarily focuses on Dr. Taware’s financial transactions, including how much he received or was promised and by whom.”

A senior police officer stated, “Another key aspect is the blood sample used to replace the minor’s sample.” Our investigation suggests that it was Dr. Taware’s idea to change the sample to tamper with the blood alcohol concentration test and hinder the probe.”

On Tuesday evening, police conducted additional searches at Dr. Taware’s residence in the Pune Camp area.

Another police officer explained, “The minor’s blood sample was collected at Sassoon Hospital around 11 am on May 19. Analysis of call detail records indicates that in the two hours prior, Dr. Taware and the minor’s father exchanged 14 calls via WhatsApp, FaceTime, and standard cellular connection.”

The officer said, “We obtained details of these calls through technical analysis as part of the probe.” We are also investigating how the father initially connected with Taware and whether anyone else mediated between them.”

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
