Thirty bus passengers escaped, when their vehicle deviated from the Pune-Mumbai expressway near Shirgaon, at Ozarde village, before ending up on fire on Tuesday. All bus passengers escaped successfully after the incident without suffering any injuries. The firefighters responsible for extinguishing the fire came from Vadgaon and Talegaon Dabhade alongside IRB personnel.
Shirgaon police reported that the incident took place around 5 am when the bus was heading from Kolhapur to Mumbai. The driver attempted to pass another vehicle from the left direction at Shirgaon when he lost control causing the bus to hit the road barriers before stopping in a gutter. The incident started as an outcome of friction between various elements. Travelers immediately left the vehicle before emergency response systems activated notifications that reached both the Vadgaon and Talegaon Dabhade IRB and fire services. The Vadgaon fire brigade fireman Tahir Momin reported that his team arrived to discover the bus completely on fire with dry grass nearby also in flames.
As quoted by the Times of India, a fireman, Tahin Momin, said “We doused the fire in the bus and the dry grass to prevent the spread to the nearby locality.”
He also mentioned that “After veering off the expressway, the bus fortunately did not turn on its side. Had it turned, it would have been difficult for the passengers to come out of the bus safely.”
The case has been registered against the bus driver under sections 281 for rash driving, 125 for endangering the life of others, and other sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
