According to a report published by NDTV, the man came across an online advertisement that read, “Looking for a man who can make me pregnant.”

The man, a contractor, believed it was a genuine advertisement. He responded and was subsequently asked to pay several fees. Officials said that he was asked to pay in the name of initial fees, membership fees, and privacy fees.

The conmen kept asking him to make further payments, warning that the task would not be completed otherwise.

He ended up paying Rs 11 lakh, only to later discover that he had fallen victim to cybercriminals. The man stopped receiving messages from them and soon realised he had lost a substantial sum to the fraudsters.

He then lodged a complaint with the police. A probe has been launched into the matter, and police officials are trying to identify those who conned the contractor.

Police have cautioned citizens not to respond to such advertisements or anonymous phone calls from individuals who threaten digital arrest and demand payment.

In a recent similar incident, a 78-year-old former central government employee lost Rs 51 lakh. The conman posed as an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Mumbai and told the retired employee that his SIM card had been used in a bomb blast.
