Pune: In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old software engineer was killed in hit-and-run on Tuesday morning after being run over by a dumper truck on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway.
According to sources, the techie, identified as Chaitanya Umesh Shinde from Wagholi was on his scooter when a dumper hit him and fled the scene around 7 am. Shinde had recently passed out of an engineering college and was working with a software company in Kharadi.

Reports revealed that the dumper moving in the same direction as Shinde, hit his scooter from behind. He eventually lost his balance, fell on the road, and got run over by the truck.
Following the incident, Shinde was immediately taken to a private hospital in Yerawada. Upon arrival, the doctors declared him dead. Umesh Shinde, his father, has lodged a complaint against the unknown truck driver with the Lonikand police.
Police reviewed the CCTV footage of the establishments along the highway. Preliminary findings revealed that a red-coloured truck hit the techie and fled towards Kharadi. Police investigations are currently underway to nab the accused truck driver.
The incident throws light on the deep-seated reasons on the increasing number of fatal road accidents.
