Pune Bus Rape Case: Pune Police have begun a manhunt for a man accused of raping a 26-year-old woman near a parked bus in Swargate area. Twenty-two guards deployed at the bus stand were suspended after the incident. The accused, identified as Dattatray Ramdas Gade is on the run. Officials stated that efforts are underway to trace him. The incident took place on Monday morning when the victim, a working woman, was waiting for a bus to return home. Reportedly, the accused approached her, falsely claiming that the bus to her destination was parked elsewhere. He then led her to a parked bus, where he allegedly committed the crime.
What Did Police Say?
Zone 2, DCP Smarthana Patil stated that a complaint has been registered and the accused has been identified. “We have identified the accused, and we are making all the efforts to nab him. The accused is identified as Dattatray Ramdas Gade. The victim is stable right now…,” Patil said.

Maharashtra Govt Calls Meeting
Maharashtra government has called meeting over the incident on Thursday. Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said, “We have called an immediate meeting in Mantralaya on Thursday at the additional chief secretary (transport) Sanjay Sethi’s office. MSRTC has many vehicles which have to be scrapped and no call has been taken. We will have to take a call on this. No scrapped buses should be kept at any bus stand premises. We will also have to install CCTV and GPS in all buses.”
Maha Deputy CM Condemns The Incident
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday condemned the incident and called it shameful, painful, and infuriating. Pawar said that he has personally directed the Pune Police Commissioner to closely monitor the investigation and ensure immediate arrest of the accused.
“The incident of rape of our sister at Pune’s Swargate bus stand is extremely shameful, painful, and infuriating for every member of a civilised society. The crime committed by the accused is unforgivable, and there can be no punishment except the death penalty. I have personally instructed the Pune Police Commissioner to closely monitor the investigation and ensure immediate arrest of the accused,” Deputy CM said.
He further mentioned that the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also taken the incident seriously and has given the necessary instructions to the police. He assured that the police will arrest the accused at the earliest. “The state government will take all necessary steps to ensure that the accused is given the harshest punishment,” added Pawar.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Vasant More along with other party leaders, held a protest at the Swargate bus stand on Wednesday.
