Pune Bus Rape Case: 72-Hour Manhunt Involving 500 Officers And Villagers Leads to Arrest Of Accused – CP Provides Details

Pune: Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar thanked people of Gunat village in Maharashtra for their cooperation to nab the accused. The accused in Pune bus rape case was arrested on Friday by the Pune Crime branch. He will be produced before the Court and a special counsel will be appointed in the case. The accused was arrested last night around 1.10 am. A manhunt was launched to nab the accused after he went absconding.

72-Hour Manhunt! 500 Officers, Gunat Villagers

Pune Police Commissioner shared details on how the accused was nabbed. He said that 500 officers and personnel were working on this operation for the past three days. Dog squads helped in getting leads from different locations, which gave positive results. Around 400-500 citizens of Gunat village extended significant cooperation in the search. He added that drone cameras were also used to locate the accused.

Addressing a press conference, Pune CP said, “The accused was detained from Gunat village last night around 1:10 am... People from the Gunat village helped us nab the accused. Nearly 500 officers and personnel had been working on this operation for the past three days. Around 400-500 citizens of Gunat village extended significant cooperation in the search. Our dog squad provided leads from different locations, which yielded positive results. Drone cameras were also used, which proved beneficial. Although there was a delay, we finally arrested the accused last night.”

He further stated that the Police will succeed in preventing such cases in future. “After completing the formalities, he was arrested, and he will be produced before the Court today. A special counsel will be appointed, and we will try to fast-track the case... We believe that we will succeed in preventing such cases in the future, and we are working in this regard," Kumar added.

CP To Honour Villagers

Kumar also informed that he will pay visit to Gunat and honour the villagers. “I thank the people of Gunat on behalf of Pune police. I will visit the village to honour the villagers who helped us,” he added.
