Several expressway projects are initiated by the Central and State Governments, which are planned to boost connectivity in the country. One such expressway is the Pune-Bengaluru Expressway. Under this come the 9 districts of Karnataka- Tumkur, Belagam, Chitradurga, Bengaluru Rural, Koppal, Gadag, Bagalkot, and Vijayanagar, and three in Maharashtra- Sangli, Pune, Satara.
According to a report by 99acres, the ambitious project is expected to be completed by 2028. Designed as an 8-lane expressway, it aims to facilitate smooth traffic flow. With an estimated cost exceeding Rs 50,000 crore, the project falls under the Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative and is intended to provide a faster alternative to NH-48, enhancing connectivity between Pune and Bengaluru.
Once this route is built, it will cut travel time from 15 hours to 7 hours. There will be six Road Over Bridges (ROBs), 22 interchanges, 55 flyovers, and 14 crossings made over national and state highways. It will go through rural parts of Karnataka and parched regions in Maharashtra, adding to local connections and opening up job and business resources for the people there.
Easy access to industrial and commercial regions will encourage very far-flung places to be chosen for residential development. The need for affordable housing is expected to increase in Alwar (Rajasthan), Kota (Rajasthan), Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh), Vadodara (Gujarat), and Surat (Gujarat), according to 99 acres.
