Public Holidays: 2026 is just two months away. Meanwhile, the General Administration Department has published the holiday calendar for 2026. According to the recently released calendar, there will be 31 public holidays and 19 optional holidays for government workers next year. This equates to fifty holidays in total. However, employees will be able to take advantage of only two of the 19 optional holidays.
Public Holidays: 9 Days Redcuced Next Year
Employees will have three holidays during a 12-week period in the upcoming year. A number of festivals that fall on Saturdays and Sundays have resulted in the reduction of nine holidays. In addition to these holidays, the collector will have the authority to designate two district-wide public holidays annually. A different holiday calendar is provided to bank employees by the Finance Department.
Public Holidays: Summary Of Festivals
Makar Sankranti/Magh Bihu/Pongal will be celebrated on January 14, 2026. Basant Panchami will be celebrated on January 23rd. Also, January 26th is a public holiday. Guru Ravidas Jayanti is celebrated on February 1st, followed by Mahashivratri on February 15th, Swami Dayananda Saraswati Jayanti on February 12th, and Shivaji Jayanti on February 19th. Next year, Holika Dahan will be held on March 2nd and Dhulandi on March 3rd. This means that the holiday will occur on March 3rd. In addition, holidays are observed for Ramdev Jayanti and Teja Dashami on September 21st, Durgashtami on October 19th, Diwali on November 8th, and Govardhan Puja on November 9th.

Public Holidays in India, also known as Government Holidays, are a collection of cultural, nationalistic, and religious holidays that are enacted at the union or state levels. As a culturally diverse country, many festivals are held in various regions throughout the country.
The Government of India has declared only three national holidays: Republic Day (26 January), Independence Day (15 August), and Gandhi Jayanti (2 October). Aside from that, the Union Government declares certain national holidays. Furthermore, various state governments and union territories designate additional holidays on local festivals or significant days as holidays.
