Nupur Sharma Row: The hearing of Nupur Sharma, who was expelled from the BJP for quoting Islamic texts regarding Prophet Muhammad, will be held in the Supreme Court today.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and B Pardiwala may consider transfer of cases filed against Nupur Sharma in different states to Delhi. Nupur Sharma’s lawyer has filed a petition seeking transfer of all the cases to Delhi. In the last hearing held on July 19, the court had stayed Nupur’s arrest till August 10.
Will Nupur Sharma get relief?
In the last hearing, while giving relief to Nupur Sharma, the Supreme Court had also issued notice to the Central Government and the State Governments. The court had directed that no coercive action should be taken against Nupur Sharma.
During the hearing, advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for Nupur Sharma, said that there is a serious threat to her life.
Nupur Sharma’s life in danger
Nupur Sharma had told the court that her life is in danger. Nupur Sharma had said that due to the adverse remarks of the Supreme Court, she is facing threat to her life from radical Islamist elements.
She had also sought relief from the court for arrest. In her petition, she also sought transfer of 9 FIRs registered in different states at one place.
Supreme Court had reprimanded Nupur Sharma
During the hearing in this case, Nupur Sharma was also reprimanded by the Supreme Court. A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice JB Pardiwala had reprimanded his objectionable statement. The apex court had asked Nupur that what was the need for her to make such a statement?
Remarks on Prophet Muhammad
Nupur Sharma is accused of making remarks against on Prophet Muhammad. During a debate on a TV channel, she had made remarks on Prophet Mohammad. Protests were held at many places against the remarks. The BJP had expelled her from the party. Cases were registered against Nupur in various states.
