Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, marking his first visit since assuming office for a historic third term. The visit is marked by a series of significant events aimed at bolstering development and fostering cultural and youth empowerment in the region.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will inaugrate and lay the foundation stone for 84 major developmental projects across various sectors. These projects, valued at over Rs 1,500 crore, encompass crucial infrastructure enhancements such as road networks, water supply schemes, and advancements in higher education infrastructure. Among the notable projects are the improvement of the Chenani-Patnitop-Nashri section, development of industrial estates, and the construction of six government degree colleges.
Additionally, PM Modi launched the Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture and Allied Sectors (JKCIP) Project worth Rs 1,800 crore. This ambitious initiative will span 90 blocks across 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, benefitting approximately 15 lakh individuals across 3,00,000 households. The project aims to enhance agricultural productivity and promote allied sectors, thereby boosting rural economies.

Highlighting the importance of youth empowerment, Prime Minister Modi participated in the ‘Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K’ event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar. This event served as a platform to showcase local achievements and inspire young achievers from Jammu and Kashmir. PM Modi interacted with participants and distributed appointment letters to over 2,000 newly appointed government officials, underscoring his administration’s commitment to bolstering employment opportunities in the region.
In light of recent security concerns following terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, stringent measures have been implemented for Modi’s visit. The Special Protection Group (SPG) has conducted extensive security drills, fortifying Srinagar and securing the event venues. The city has been temporarily designated a ‘Red Zone’ to restrict unauthorized drone operations, underscoring heightened security protocols.
On June 21st, Prime Minister Modi led the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations at SKICC, Srinagar. Emphasizing the theme ‘Yoga for Self and Society,’ the event aimed to promote physical and mental well-being among participants. Since its inception in 2015, PM Modi has spearheaded Yoga Day celebrations globally, underscoring the profound impact of yoga on individual and societal health.
