New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences at the loss of lives in a school bus accident in Manipur’s Noney district on Wednesday.

As many as seven students died and 40 others were injured in the school bus accident in Manipur.

“Saddened to learn about the accident of a school bus carrying children in Noney district of Manipur. The loss of precious young lives is distressing. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured,” Rashtrapati Bhavan tweeted.

“Anguished by the loss of lives in Manipur’s Noney district due to a tragic bus accident. My thoughts are with the bereaved families,” PM Modi said.

“I hope the injured recover soon. The Manipur government is providing all possible assistance to those affected,” he added.

PM Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to be given to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 for the injured.

7 killed in bus accident

As many as seven students died and 40 others were injured in a school bus accident on the Old Cachar Road in Manipur’s Noney district.

As per media reports, five girls died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries on the way to a hospital.

As per reports, two buses carrying students of Thambal Marik Higher Secondary School, Yairipok, Manipur were on their way to Khoupum on a tour. One of the buses in which they were travelling overturned near Tuivon village.

The injured were admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and a private hospital in Imphal. The condition of several of them is stated to be critical.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed grief over the deaths and announced a sum of Rs 5 lakh each from CM’s Relief Fund to the families of the students, who died in the accident.
