After a series of suspensions in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha that has mounted to a number of 141 till now, the lawmakers have reached a new low. The vice president of India, who chairs the Rajya Sabha went through some unbelievable and unprecedented experiences, perhaps the first time for a vice president to have gone through. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was seen filming this activity on his phone. Nobody among these suspended MPs raised their voice to stop this unparliamentary activity that is detrimental to the dignity of the house and the MPs. None from the group of protesting MPs recognized that the vice president is not for a political party but for the nation. On this incident, President Draupadi Murmu expressed her feelings and wrote on X that she was dismayed to see the manner in which the vice president of India was humiliated. Reminding them of the terms and conditions of the right to express, she wrote, "Elected representatives must be free to express themselves, but their expression should be within the norms of dignity and courtesy." PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with the vice president in which he expressed his extreme pain over the abject theatrics of a few MPs. The PM also added that he has been at the receiving end of such insults for the last two decades but the fact that it could happen to a vice president holding a constitutional office was unfortunate.
