New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu will be visiting London from September 17-19 to attend the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday and offer condolences on behalf of the Government of India, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday.

Queen Elizabeth II, the former head of state of the UK and Head of the Commonwealth of Nations passed away on 8th September at the age of 96.

President Droupadi Murmu, vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed their condolences following the death of Britain’s longest-serving monarch.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar visited the British High Commission in New Delhi on 12 September 2022 to convey India’s condolences. India observed one day of national mourning on September 11.

“In the 70 years of reign of Queen Elizabeth II, India-UK ties have evolved, flourished and strengthened immensely. She played an important role in the welfare of millions of people around the world as Head of the Commonwealth,” the statement said.

Queen the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch

Queen Elizabeth II, longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch, died on September 8. She was 96. Her reign as the queen of England lasted for over 70 years.

The state funeral of the Queen will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday, September 19.
