President Droupadi Murmu graces convocation ceremony of Patanjali University, Says ‘students should make austerity, and dedication the foundation of their lives’

The President noted that the University of Patanjali is advancing education and research in the fields of yoga, Ayurveda, and naturopathy.

President Droupadi Murmu adorned the second convocation ceremony of the University of Patanjali at Haridwar, Uttarakhand, today, as per an official release from the President’s Secretariat.

While speaking on the occasion, President Murmu said that India’s great personalities have made invaluable contributions to the development of human culture. Maharishi Patanjali, the greatest of sages, removed the impurities of the mind through yoga, of speech through grammar, and of the body through Ayurveda. She was happy to note that the University of Patanjali is making the great tradition of Maharishi Patanjali accessible to society.

The President noted that the University of Patanjali is advancing education and research in the fields of yoga, Ayurveda, and naturopathy. She said that it is an appreciable effort that is instrumental in building a healthy India.

According to the release, the President was happy to note the India-centered educational vision of the University of Patanjali. She said, “Education with the vision of the spirit of universal brotherhood, integration of ancient Vedic knowledge and cutting-edge scientific research, and resolution of global challenges is advancing the Indian knowledge tradition in modern contexts.”

The President said that students who have received an education in accordance with the ideals of this university must have realised that protecting the environment and adapting their lifestyle to nature is essential for the future of humanity. She expressed confidence that they will always be ready to face global challenges, including climate change.

The President said, “The wish for universal well-being is the hallmark of our culture. This well-being paves the way for harmony and inclusive development.” She was confident that the students of this University would put the life value of harmony into practice.

The President added that nurturing individuals leads to nurturing families, which leads to society and nation building. She noted that the University of Patanjali has adopted the path of nation-building through individual development. She expressed confidence that the students of this university would make significant contributions to building a healthy society and a developed India with their righteous conduct. 

Chancellor of Patanjali University, Swami Ramdev, asserted that the entire Patanjali family feels proud and honoured by the visit of Hon’ble President Droupadi Murmu. He said that the students of Patanjali University are moving forward not only with education but also with a deep sense of nation-building. Swami Ramdev added that every student of Patanjali University is not a “job seeker” but a “job creator.” The foundation of education here, he said, is not based on caste or religion but on the eternal principles of Sanatan Dharma. He further stated that the aim of Patanjali University is not merely to produce educated citizens but to build a moral, self-reliant, and value-driven society.

Vice-Chancellor Acharya Balkrishna welcomed Chief Guest President Droupadi Murmu and other distinguished guests, stating that Patanjali University has successfully implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to make education employment-oriented, multidisciplinary, and value-based. He informed that Patanjali University has received an A+ grade with a 3.48 grade point from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) — a testament to the institution’s high quality. He added that the university offers tuition-free education and special concessions for meritorious students.

Acharya Balkrishna also shared that the Patanjali Research Foundation has made significant scientific contributions in the fields of yoga, Ayurveda, and integrative health sciences, earning international recognition. He mentioned that the university continues to progress in sports, culture, and research as well. Acharya Ji affirmed that their goal is to elevate Patanjali University to the league of the world’s finest universities.

He further highlighted the unique feature of the university — encouraging and rewarding the memorization and study of traditional scriptures. In addition to regular education, Patanjali University also offers online and distance learning programs, enabling students from India and abroad to pursue their studies.

On this occasion, Governor Gurmit Singh released two books — “Flora of Rashtrapati Bhavan” and “Medicinal Plants of Rashtrapati Bhavan” — the first copies of which were presented to the President. During the convocation ceremony, a total of 1,424 students were conferred degrees, including 54 gold medalists, 62 PhD scholars, 3 DLitt awardees, 744 undergraduates, and 615 postgraduates.
