New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday gave her assent to two bills of Punjab And Telangana.
As per an official Statement, The president gave a nod to a Punjab bill that will give property rights to more than 11,200 leaseholders on over 4,000 acres of land after paying all due compensation.
President Droupadi Murmu also gave her assent to a bill of Telangana which allows imposition of fines on people standing surety for securing bail in cases of a heinous crime if he or she fails to produce an accused before the court on a fixed date.
Punjab Assembly passed the Bhondekar, Butemar, Dohlidar, Insar Miadi, Mukarraridar, Mudhimar, Panahi Qadeem, Saunjidar, or Tarabadkar (Vesting of Property Rights) Bill, 2020. It was passed by the Congress government and approved by the Bhagwant Mann government.
The law will empower 11,200 tenants to occupy over 4,000 acres of land after paying due compensation. These tenants have held on to a small portion of land for years as they have inherited it from generation to generation.
The code of Criminal procedure (Telangana Amendment bill, 2020 was introduced by the K Chandrashekhar Rao government and passed by Telangana Assembly in 2020.
