Prayagraj has been completely gridlocked as zillions of devotees are heading to the city for the ongoing Mahakumbh and for the upcoming Maghi Purnima on february 12 and Shivaratri on february 26 leading to a massive rush in the area.
Mahakumbh 2025 Pilgrims are flocking to Prayagraj in huge numbers to take a hold dip at the site via cars, buses and trains. Devotees travelling by car and buses are facing extreme congestion in the route whereas devotees travelling via train are facing utmost station and train overcrowding.
Railway stations around the Prayagraj districts including Varanasi, Kanpur, Fatehpur, Katni, Satna and Rewa are currently facing excessive difficulties from soaring numbers of passengers.

Having confirmed tickets is not helping passengers in avoiding inconvenience since AC compartments now closely resemble general coaches. Extreme congestion inside the train is now leading the devotees to stuff themselves into train baggage compartments causing problems for railway management and an extra workload for staff members.
Passengers of the Mahakumbh Special train have voiced their extensive dissatisfaction regarding management as women and children faced unmanageable discomfort and were forced to sit on the floor and dozen others had to endure hours of standing while all the compartments including third AC and second AC remained fully stuffed.
The numbers of devotee travelling by bus and car keeps growing dramatically and due to this the entire interface between Rewa to Prayagraj route has become absolutely impassable and a 15 kilometer long traffic congestion has completely stopped all movement.
The rising number of attendees has led the authorities to shut down Prayagraj Sangam Railway Station (Daraganj) for operations until February 14.
According to Prayagraj District Administration orders, Prayagraj Sangam Railway Station will remain closed from February 9 at 1:30 PM to February 14 until midnight. Necessary measure has been taken to control the overwhelming crowd emerging in Prayagraj.
