Prashant Kishor has not given up after the major setback he faced in 2017. Instead, he has once again decided to go back to the people. After completing a one-day silent fast at the Bhitiharwa Gandhi Ashram, the Jan Suraj founder made a big announcement.
He said that he will begin the Bihar Sankalp Yatra from January 15. During this journey, he plans to meet women in all 1 lakh 18 thousand wards of the state who have received the government’s financial assistance of Rs 10,000. He will also help them fill out forms to claim the additional Rs 2 lakh benefit offered by the Bihar government. Along with this, Prashant Kishor also announced that he will donate 90% of his wealth.
How much property does Prashant Kishor own?
In early November last year, Prashant Kishor shared that he had earned around Rs 241 crore in three years. Out of this, he has already donated Rs 99 crore to the Jan Suraj Party. He has also paid Rs 31 crore in GST and Rs 20 crore in income tax. According to media reports, his current assets are estimated to be around Rs 55–60 crore.
While criticising the Nitish Kumar cabinet, Kishor said, “‘This is a slap on the face of the people of Bihar, like sprinkling salt on the wound. Some made ministers just because their father’s in politics. People with corrupt and criminal backgrounds were also included.”
Kishor accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of neglecting Bihar, claiming they “no longer care about the people” because elections are being influenced by money. He added that his political approach follows Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of patience and perseverance.
PK appeals for Rs 1,000 public contribution
Speaking to the media, Prashant Kishor said that anyone who supports Jan Suraj can contribute Rs 1,000 to the organisation. He also announced that he is donating almost all the property he has acquired in the last 20 years—except his Delhi house—for the Bihar initiative. Kishor further said that from now on, he will use 90% of his future income to fund the Bihar Sankalp Yatra and the social programmes connected to it.
Kishor also announced the start of the ‘Bihar Navnirman Sankalp Yatra’, which will begin on January 15. During this campaign, Jan Suraaj volunteers will visit every household in Bihar. He said the team will spend the next 15–18 months reaching out to families across the state and informing them about what he called the failures of the current government. He added that the Jan Suraaj Party’s organisation will be strengthened before the yatra begins.
Reaffirming his personal commitment, Kishor said that he will donate all the property he has earned over the last 20 years, except his home in Delhi, to the party. He also urged people to support the movement, saying, “I ask the people of Bihar to contribute just Rs 1,000 a year to the party. I will not meet anyone who does not donate this amount.”
