Chennai: In Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-ruled Tamil Nadu, a political battle over ‘curd’ seems to be starting. Chief Minister MK Stalin has made allegations of imposition of Hindi. The special thing is that he is getting the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

FSSAI has issued instructions to remove the curd and write ‘Dahi’ on the packet of packaged curd. Apart from this, these instructions have been asked to apply to butter and cheese also. Now the milk producers of Tamil Nadu have come out in protest regarding the order of FSSAI.

It is argued that curd is a generic term, which can be used in any language. Whereas, ‘Dahi’ is a special product, which is different from the curd in taste.

CM Stalin said, “The insistence on imposing Hindi has come to such an extent that we are being instructed to name the packet of curd in Hindi as well. Due to this Tamil and Kannada are falling behind in our states. Such an insult to our mother tongues will ensure that those responsible are thrown out of the South forever”.

Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai has also demanded the withdrawal of FSSAI instruction. it does not match Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of promotion of regional languages, he said.
