Ajit Pawar reaches out to Congress leader
They further added that Ajit Pawar made a phone call to Congress leader Satej Patil and offered a proposal for discussions. On the other hand, Satej Patil said he would have to consult senior party leaders, as the grand old party wants seat-sharing in the Pune Municipal Corporation.
Ajit Pawar’s initiative sparks buzz
However, it is highly unlikely that the NCP will leave the Mahayuti and join hands with the Congress, but sources said Pawar taking the initiative himself is a significant development.
Congress in caution mode
The Congress is moving cautiously for the Pune Municipal Corporation polls and is discussing all possible gains and losses in the elections. The party is also on alert mode with its Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies for the municipal corporation elections across the state.
Sources further added that the Congress is in no mood to negotiate for fewer seats in the 165-member Pune Municipal Corporation. The party believes that since a Congress MP represents Pune in the Lok Sabha, it is important for the party to maintain a strong hold in the municipal corporation.
