The Delhi Police has busted a large nexus which was smuggling cartridges. The feat was made when an auto driver recognized something was fishy. So far, 2251 cartridges have been recovered in this operation. The operation lasted for a week. The recovered cartridges are of high caliber. They are estimated to amount Rs 5 lacs. Police has also arrested a total of 6 people in this nexus.
No connections yet with any terror module
The Delhi Police has not yet deciphered any connections of the accused with terrorist organization or module. So far the investigation has revealed that a gangster named Anil, who is lodged in Meerut jail is the key person. He connected Saddam of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh to Parikshit Negi, owner of a Gun House in Dehradun. Negi was involved in fraudulent sale of cartridges.
According to Vikramjit Singh, Additional CP Eastern Range of Delhi Police, Delhi Police came to know about this gang when the auto driver of Anand Vihar told the police personnel present there. He garnered suspicion on two men who were carrying a heavy bag. The police searched the bags based on this suspicion. They unveiled a huge quantity of high caliber cartridges from the bag.
The accused are identified as Rashid & Ajmal
The names of the two men caught were Rashid and Ajmal. They have told the police that he was bringing these cartridges from Dehradun and further they were to be delivered first to Lucknow and then to Jaunpur. He told the police that the person who gave him the delivery in Dehradun had tattoos on his hands, besides calling him under a bridge, he had given these cartridges by filling them in the bag.
On the basis of the information received from these two, Delhi Police first zeroed in Parikshit Negi, owner of Royal Gun House and then arrested him. During the investigation, it was found that Parikshit Negi has sold cartridges to criminals several times by manipulation. Apart from this, when the police gathered further information, it was found that Rashid and Ajmal were about to deliver these cartridges to Saddam of Jaunpur at the moment.
Police identified Parikshit based on his tattoo
According to the police, Parikshit Negi was very careful while giving the cartridges. But the police reached him through tattoos and car numbers. Police say that Saddam had to supply these cartridges further to some big gangster who is a resident of Jaunpur.
The police is currently investigating the matter further on this angle. At the same time, the police is also trying to find out whether the wire of this entire network is not connected to any terrorist organization because Delhi Police has been alerted after the recovery of such a large quantity of cartridges just before August 15.
