The PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme has received an important update aimed at providing free electricity to people. The government has issued new guidelines that make it easier for beneficiaries to take advantage of this scheme. Under this initiative, families can receive 300 units of free electricity each month, along with subsidies of up to 78,000 rupees for installing solar panels on their rooftops.
To make the installation of solar panels more accessible, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has approved two new payment options under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme. This means that people can now install solar panels without having to spend any money upfront. The goal is to ensure that those benefiting from the scheme do not face financial difficulties when installing solar panels.
New Payment Models
RESCO Model: Under this model, a third-party organization will install solar panels on your roof at no cost to you. You will only pay for the electricity you use from the solar panels.
ULA Model: In this model, electricity companies or state-nominated organizations will install solar panels on your home without any charge. This allows you to benefit from cheaper electricity.
Subsidy Details
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM Surya Ghar Scheme in February 2024. Families can receive 30,000 rupees for installing up to 2 kilowatts of solar panels, 48,000 rupees for 3 kilowatts, and up to 78,000 rupees for installations above 3 kilowatts. The government transfers these subsidy amounts directly to the bank accounts of beneficiaries, reducing the financial burden of installing solar panels.
This initiative not only helps lower electricity bills for low- and middle-income families but also promotes the use of clean energy in India. By encouraging solar energy adoption, the government aims to create a more sustainable and energy-independent future for the country.
