Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8 PM today. The much-anticipated speech will be his first since India’s strong response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists on April 22. In the aftermath of the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation led to the neutralisation of over 100 terrorists. Pakistan responded with an attempted counter-attack, which was successfully intercepted by Indian forces.
Facing severe losses and a shortage of ammunition, Pakistan subsequently requested a ceasefire. Although a ceasefire is currently in place, Pakistan has violated it multiple times, prompting stern warnings from India.
On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, the Prime Minister is expected to speak on the current security situation and the success of Operation Sindoor. Meanwhile, the Indian DGMOs briefed the press earlier on Monday to share further evidence of the success of India’s counter-measures.

Operation Sindoor
In reply to the Pahalgam attack, the Indian Armed Forces successfully executed ‘Operation Sindoor’ targeting key terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The operation involved precision strikes on nine identified sites linked to terrorist outfits, specifically targeting camps associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad. Notable locations affected include Masjid Sobhanullah in Ahmed Pur East, Bahawalpur, Kotli in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and Muzaffarabad.
Ceasefire
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Friday, May 9, 2025, informed about the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He said both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea, effective from 1700 hours of Indian Standard Time. However, on the same day, Pakistan violated the ceasefire.
