On the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, notable progress in the field of road infrastructure across the country is being appreciated. Under his leadership, a strong network of fast and modern roads has developed in the country, which has not only simplified the journey but also connected major cities. These routes have reduced the duration of the journey and improved the daily traffic of common citizens.
Here are the list of top five expressways and highways:
- Mumbai -Nagpur (Samriddhi Mahamarg)
Famously known as Samriddhi Mahamarg, this six-lane expressway is 701 km long and connects Mumbai to Nagpur. Its speed limit for passenger vehicles is 120 km/h and 80 km/h for heavy vehicles. More than 20 toll booths on this route remain at different places. - Agra-Lucknow Expressway
This six-lane Greenfield Expressway is 302 km long and connects Agra to Lucknow. It has a distance-based closed toll system, the rates of which vary according to the type of vehicle. Its design speed is 120 km/h, while the actual speed range ranges from 100 to 120 km/h. - Delhi-Meerut Expressway
The 82 km long expressway starts from Sarai Kale Khan (Delhi) to Pallavpur in Meerut. It is counted among the country’s widest expressway as it has 14 lanes. The speed limit for passenger trains is 100 km/h and 80 km/h for commercial vehicles. It is applied to a closed toll system and the toll of the entire route is ₹ 170. - Eastern Peripheral Expressway
The Ring Expressway is 135 km long and starts from Kundali (Sonipat) to Palwal, leading to a decrease in Delhi’s traffic pressure. It connects many large expressways. Under normal conditions, its speed limit is 120 km/h, which decreases to 100 km/h in winter. The toll rates range from ₹ 45 to ₹ 160, which depends on the distance of the journey. - Purvanchal Expressway
Purvanchal Expressway is a 340 km long greenfield project, which starts from Gosain Ganj near Lucknow to NH-31 in Ghazipur. Its speed limit for passenger vehicles is 120 km/h and 80 km/h for commercial vehicles. It is based on the distance -based closed toll system, which is operated by UPEIDA.
