Morbi (Gujarat): After the cable suspension bridge claimed the lives of at least 132 persons in Gujarat, the state Chief Minister’s office announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would travel to Morbi on Tuesday.
Over 100 people are being treated for their injuries after a cable suspension bridge in Morbi town fell on Sunday, sending people into the Machchhu River. At least 132 people, including women and children, were killed. In Kevadia, the prime minister declared that rescue activities were in full swing and that there would be no slacking off.
“Since Sunday night, the Gujarati government has been conducting relief and rescue activities. The State Government is receiving full support from the Center as well “said PM Modi.
He added, “The State Government has constituted a committee to investigate this incident. I assure the people of the country that there will be no laxity in rescue and relief operations.”
While addressing a gathering on the occasion of the 147th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Ekta Nagar in Kevadia, the Prime Minister informed this.
PM Modi said, “I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. In this hour of grief, the government is with the bereaved families in every manner. The Gujarat Government has been carrying out relief and rescue operations since the incident. Centre too is extending all help to the State Government.”
He further said, “I am in Ekta Nagar but my mind is with the victims of Morbi. Rarely in my life, would I have experienced such pain. On one hand, there is a pain-riddled heart and on the other hand, there is the path to duty.”
The Prime Minister postponed his roadshow in Ahmedabad while on a three-day trip to Gujarat and Rajasthan.
While speaking to the crowd and laying the cornerstones for multiple projects totaling more than Rs 8,000 crore in Banaskantha’s Tharad, the prime minister became emotional.
In his remarks to the crowd, PM Modi also paid tribute to those who perished after the century-old suspension bridge in Morbi, Gujarat, fell yesterday. After the Morbi accident, I am in a lot of distress,” Modi stated.
“I was indecisive about participating in the development programmes. But you brought me here with a strong heart because of your love and service, as well as the “Sanskar” of fulfilling my obligations. North Gujarat as a whole is referred to as Banaskantha “P.M. Modi said in breaking voice.
