In a major diplomatic exercise ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China after a gap of seven years, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet PM Modi on Tuesday. The meeting is scheduled at 5:30 pm and is aimed at reviving and strengthening India-China relations ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
Wang Yi is likely to update the Prime Minister on the SCO summit agenda and the latest developments in China-India relations. Wang and Jaishankar are also expected to work on finalising the agenda for the Modi-Xi bilateral meeting.
Modi will leave for China to attend the SCO summit to be held in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1. During this visit, he is likely to hold important bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The visit is considered very important in the context of changing global equations and ongoing efforts to stabilize India-China relations.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi To Meet EAM S. Jaishankar & NSA
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will begin his visit with a meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday evening, followed by talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Tuesday morning. The Doval-Wang talks will be the 24th round of dialogue between special representatives on the India-China border dispute, which is a major and sensitive issue between the two countries.
