United Nations: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be making history as he is to lead a yoga session for the first time at UN Headquarters on the occasion of International Day of Yoga on June 21.
The International Day of Yoga was recognised by the United Nations on June 21 by passing the resolution 69/31 on December 11, 2014.
Yoga Day was formed to raise global awareness about the various advantages related to doing yoga every day. After Modi’s proposal nine years ago to establish International Yoga Day as an annual celebration, the UN recognised it in December 2014.
Where the event will be taking place?
The session will be taking place on June 21 from 8 am to 9 am, and will be organised on the North Lawn in the UN Headquarters, where the statue of Mahatma Gandhi is installed; a gift from India to the UN.

The historic event will be attended by esteemed attendees, including UN officials, ambassadors, envoys, delegates from Member States along with the important members of the global and diaspora community.
