New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday evening took part in Tamil New Year celebrations at the residence of Minister of State L Murugan in New Delhi.
Puducherry Lt Governor and Telangana Governor were also present at the event.
Speaking at the occasion, PM Modi hailed Tamil Culture.
“The ancient Tamil culture and tradition of taking new energy from Puthandu every year is truly amazing. This makes Tamil Nadu and Tamil people very special. That is why, I have always been enchanted by this tradition and have also had an emotional attachment to this,” PM Modi said.

PM Narendra Modi termed Tamil culture eternal as well as global in nature.
“On the completion of 75 years of independence, I spoke about taking pride in our heritage from the Red Fort. The more ancient something is the more time-tested it is. That is why, Tamil culture and Tamil people are both eternal as well as global in nature,” said PM Narendra Modi.

PM Modi said, “From Chennai to California, from Madurai to Melbourne, from Coimbatore to Cape Town, and from Selam to Singapore, you will find Tamil people who have carried with them their culture and traditions. Be it Pongal or Puthandu, they are marked all over the world.”
Prime Minister said that Tamil is the World’s oldest language.
“Tamil is the world’s oldest language. Every Indian is proud of this. Tamil literature is also widely respected. The Tamil film industry has given some of the most iconic works to us,” said PM Narendra Modi.
