New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday remembered Vinoba Bhave, an advocate of nonviolence and human rights, on his birth anniversary. He was an ardent Gandhian and is best known for the Bhoodan Movement.
“Remembering Acharya Vinoba Bhave on his Jayanti. His life was a manifestation of Gandhian principles,” PM Modi tweeted.
He was passionate about social empowerment and gave the clarion call of ‘Jai Jagat.’ We are inspired by his ideals and are committed to realising his dreams for our nation, he added.

Remembering speeches by Swami Vivekananda in Chicago
The prime minister also recalled the “special connection” September 11 has with Swami Vivekananda.
It was on this day in 1893 that he delivered one of his most outstanding speeches in Chicago, Modi said, adding that his address gave the world a glimpse of India’s culture and ethos.

Who was Vinoba Bhave?
Vinayak Narahari Bhave better known as Vinoba Bhave is regarded as the National Teacher of India. Born in 1895, Bhave dedicated his life to propagating Gandhian values and is particularly known for “Bhoodan” campaign.
It was a voluntary land reform movement attempting to persuade wealthy landowners to voluntarily give a percentage of their land to landless people.
Bhave was fluent in multiple languages including Kannada, Gujarati, Marathi, Hindi, English, Urdu and Sanskrit.
He died on November 15, 1982 at the age of 87.
Who was Swami Vivekananda?
Born as Narendranath Datta on 12 January 1863, he was later known as Swami Vivekananda, as an Hindu monk, philosopher and author.
He is best known for his groundbreaking speech to the 1893 World’s Parliament of Religions in which he introduced Hinduism to America and called for religious tolerance and an end to fanaticism.
Swami Vivekanada was the founder of the Ramakrishna Mission and Ramakrishna Math, which provided the core teachings of spirituality worldwide. He died on 4 July, 1902 at the young age of 39.
