New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tributes to BJP ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, saying his emphasis on “antyodaya” and serving the poor keeps inspiring them.

Born in 1916 in Mathura, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya was a RSS functionary and one of the founding members of the Jana Sangh, the forerunner to the BJP. He became president of the Jana Sangh in December 1967.

“I pay homage to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Ji on his Jayanti. His emphasis on Antyodaya and serving the poor keeps inspiring us. He is also widely remembered as an exceptional thinker and intellectual,” PM Modi said in a Tweet.

Sharing a video, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh payed tribute to the ideologue and said, “I bow to Pandit Deendayal Upadhay ji on his Jayanti.”

V-P releases book on Pt Deen Dayal

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday released “Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay – Jeevan Darshan Aur Samsamyikta” (five volumes) book in New Delhi.

Quoting Pt Deendayal, Dhankhar said “education is an investment in the sense that an educated man will serve the society better,” and underlined that this idea formed the basis of the New Education Policy – 2020, according to a Vice President’s Secretariat statement.

“If India has to attain its past glory, it’ll have to go beyond GDP & economics, and take a holistic view of human development in every sense as suggested by Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Ji,” he added.
