PM Modi visited Theppakadu elephant camp in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) and met with Bomman and Bellie, the major stars of the Oscar-winning documentary The Elephant Whisperers. As part of the security precautions, the MTR authorities ordered the temporary closure of hotels, elephant safaris, and tourist vehicles within the region from April 7 to 9.

Roads leading to MTR from Mysuru in Karnataka have been redesigned, and a helipad at Singara has been prepared for PM Modi’s arrival. Pathways in villages were also rebuilt, 30 electric poles were installed to offer energy in tribal regions, and the elephant swimming area was modernised.
About the movie Elephant Whisperers
The Elephant Whisperers is the first Indian film to win an Oscar for Best Documentary Short. Raghu and Ammu, two orphaned baby elephants, are the subject of the documentary. The documentary is now available to watch on Netflix.
